In this post, I will share with you results from a large Parkinson’s disease research project by Parkinson’s Foundation.

1. 10,000 people across 5 countries participated.

2. People with recently diagnosed Parkinson’s as well as with diagnosis for over 20 years.

3. Moderate to intense exercise is the MOST IMPORTANT thing to fight symptoms of Parkinson’s such as loss of mobility, loss of balance, loss of strength.

4. Parkinson’s is a progressive disease that gets worse with time. Exercise DELAYS THE WORSENING OF THE DISEASE.

5. Exercise gives patients more number of years with higher quality of life.

6. Exercising helps reestablish better rewiring of the brain cells to compensate for the disease (loss of dopamine). This is called Neuroplasticity.

7. This exercise-induced neuroplasticity helps patients with better walking, independence in activities of daily living etc.
